We recognise that a healthy and balanced lifestyle can be difficult to achieve for many people due to various barriers including mental and physical health conditions, time constraints, motivation, and personal circumstance to name a few. Off the Scales will provide you with some of the tools to help you navigate those barriers

Off the Scales is a co-designed 6-week programme that focuses on individual relationship with food and physical activity. The aim of Off the Scales is to support people to make positive and sustainable lifestyle changes, which will improve health and wellbeing, regardless of changes to weight.

Who is this service for?

Off the Scales is for any individual who would like to understand and improve their relationship with food and physical activity.

The programme is not weight-centric, therefore at no point do we measure individual weight or provide advice or guidance on how to lose weight.

What we can do to help you

Throughout the six-week programme we cover various topics including:

  • Motivation
  • Unhelpful thinking styles
  • Emotional eating
  • Body image & self-esteem
  • Physical activity
  • Goal setting

At each session, you will be provided a workbook which contains all the information discussed during the session and space for self-reflection. By the end of the programme, you will have a comprehensive workbook which will help you to maintain the progress long-term.

How do we deliver this service?

Off the Scales is delivered by a Recovery College tutor alongside a co-facilitator who understands the challenges that individuals can experience in their relationship with food and physical activity.

Each group will have no more than 10-12 people attending, with the same people attending for the whole programme. This allows individuals attending to the sessions to meet with other people who may experience similar challenges to them regarding healthy living and provide peer support throughout the programme.

The sessions are interactive providing information and learning through activities, discussions, and self-reflection space.

Off the Scales is available in various locations across Teesside and includes weekly two hours sessions for six-weeks.
